| 1946 Born July 6th in New Haven, Conn. 1948 Family moves to Odessa, TX. 1948-61 Raised in Midland & Houston, TX. 1961 Attends prep school at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. 1964 Graduates from Phillips Academy. 1968 Graduates from Yale, majored in history. 1968-73 Serves as pilot in the Texas Air National Guard. 1975 Graduates from Harvard with MBA. 1977 Meets wife, Laura, at a dinner party and marries her three months later. 1978 Starts his own oil and gas company, eventually know as Bush Exploration in Midland, TX. Mounts unsuccessful bid for Congress from Texas. 1981 Twin daughters Jenna & Barbara born. 1983 Bush's company merges with Spectrum 7 Energy Corporation; he becomes its CEO. 1986 A nearly broke Spectrum merges with Harke Oil & Gas; Bush gets consulting gig with Harkin. Has reawakening of Christian faith, gives up drinking after his 40th birthday. 1988 Works on his fathers presidential campaign. 1989 Purchases the Texas Rangers with a group of investors, serves as a managing general partner for five years. 1992 Serves as an advisor to fathers second presidential race. 1994 Elected governor of Texas; Bush makes $14.9 million from sale of Rangers 1997 Has arthosopic knee surgery. 1998 Re-elected governor. 2000 Becomes GOP presidential nominee. 2001 Sworn in as 43rd president of the United States. 2004 |
